Typography I Class: Multilingual, ADA-Compliant Wayfinding System for CMC
(WORK IN PROGRESS)
Objective:
The goal of this project is to design a comprehensive and equitable wayfinding signage system for Colorado Mountain College (CMC). This system will be multilingual, ADA-compliant, and aligned with the CMC brand guidelines, integrating cutting-edge technology to ensure accessibility and clarity for individuals of all abilities. The project will unfold in four phases, each focusing on different stages of research, design development, stakeholder collaboration, and final delivery.
Completed and in-progress steps
-
This phase will equip the design team with the necessary knowledge to create an effective and thoughtful signage system. The primary deliverable for this phase will be an action plan, distilling the gathered information into a clear roadmap for the project’s typography and design.
-
In this phase, the design team will begin to craft multiple design directions based on the research and insights gathered. These directions will be presented to key stakeholders, who will provide feedback and select their preferred direction. A timeline recap will also be conducted to ensure the project stays on track. The design team will work hands-on to refine the chosen direction, creating concrete systems and establishing grid rules that form the foundation of the wayfinding signage.
-
The design team will present the refined designs to stakeholders for review and approval. The goal is to finalize design choices, ensuring that all parties are aligned and that the system meets the needs of CMC’s diverse community. Feedback will be integrated, and final adjustments will be made to achieve consensus.
Outcome:
By the end of this project, we will have developed an inclusive, ADA-compliant, and multilingual wayfinding signage system that is not only functional but also on-brand with CMC’s aesthetic and cutting-edge in its use of technology. The system will be ready for deployment, enhancing the experience for students, faculty, and visitors alike, all while showcasing the collaborative efforts and typography expertise of the class.
